Common Problems VG30E Maxima
This is just a pain. The antenna stops going down after awhile. You can replace the mast. The plastic ridges that pull the mast down wear, not letting the motor pull the antenna down all the way. As I understand it, there is an easy way and a hard way to replace the mast, depending on the type of antenna you have. On my 91 SE, I had to pull the motor and take the antenna out before putting the new mast in. Others have told me you simply pull up on the antenna as it is going up when the radio turns on. This wasn't the case for me.
This will create a ticking noise that my trick you into thinking it is a valve. The studs on both the VG and VE engines are prone to break. You will have to drill them out and replace.
My recommendation is to try the junkyard for another speaker. I've had to do it twice.
Solution to this problem involves using "windshield adhesive." I had Kendrick Nissan do this for me last year on my white Maxima. It seated the spoiler down nicely. They clamped if for a couple hours for it to cure.
I ignored the problem on my white car, but I suggest just to get a new clock from the junk yard. Maybe you can pry it open and resodier some of the connections.
